Special Living Lessons for Relief Society Sisters by Sister Fonda AlaMode LAURIE MECHAM JOHNSON Paperback. 72 Pages. / 1-56085-090-6 / $10.95 "Sisters," writes everywoman's Relief Society president Fonda AlaMode, "I hope that you will not be offended, but I have been thinking lately." In ten missives to her ward, Fonda shares the fruits of her deepest thoughts. "I do feel," she writes, "that the Ward is truly a place of open inquisition" where women can exercise "the sweet spirits with which they are possessed." When the brethren visit with counsel, the sisters turn their thinking around "three hundred and sixty degrees." Among numerous tips on homemaking and "special womanly values," Fonda gives a synopsis of some of the recent Relief Society meetings, typically beginning with a prayer: "And please remember all those who are sick of our ward"; followed by an appropriate lesson: "Motherhood: The Greatest Calling Given Unto Mankind"; and concluding with a special thought: "Premarital intimacy is foul, filthy, and disgusting and should be saved for the one we love most." Describing herself as "a corresponding student perusing an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science from the BYU in Salt Lake," Fonda reassures her readers that she is not "what anyone would call an intellectualist." Sixty snapshots accompany the text, showing Fonda bearing her testimony ("I am not padding the truth when I say that my cup is truly full") and advising the sisters on "how to get re-committed." This should make a perfect Mother's Day gift.
