Jill Mulvay Derr is the Managing Director and Associate Professor of Church History with the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute at Brigham Young University. This paper, Sarah M. Kimball, was awarded first prize in the 1976 Utah Bicentennial Biographies Contest, professional class, jointly sponsored by the Utah State Historical Society, the Utah American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, and the Salt Lake Tribune.
