Card's humorous definitions of Mormon terminology are patterned after Ambrose Bierce's Devil's Dictionary. Saintspeak claims to be the inspired version of Gospel Doctrine, offering such tongue-in-cheek clarifications as this for the Adam-God Theory: "A doctrine that was never taught in the church, especially by Brigham Young. (See 'blood atonement.')."

Orson Scott Card is a nationally known science fiction writer and recipient of every national award in the genre. He has contributed to several anthologies, including Bright Angels & Familiars and Washed by a Wave of Wind. He also writes a monthly column for Fantasy and Science Fiction. He lives in Greensboro, North Carolina.
